Silver Cleaning and Maintenance
How to care for sterling silver products?
1. The simplest and most maintenance method is to wear it every day. The oil of the human body is the best silver polish. If silver products are not in use, it is best to store them in airtight pockets to prevent the surface of silver jewelry from contacting the air, otherwise it will be easily oxidized.
2. Sterling silver products are relatively soft and should not be pulled hard; it is best not to wear other precious metal jewelry or alloy jewelry at the same time when wearing silver jewelry, so as to avoid collision and deformation or scratches between jewelry.
3. Keep it dry, try to avoid contacting the silver jewelry with sweat, perfume, strong alkaline cleaning agent, and do not approach hot springs and seawater. (The sulfide in the hot spring will react with silver to turn black)
4. When wearing, it is best to wipe the surface of silver jewelry with a soft cloth every day to maintain the luster. Or wipe it with a professional silver wiping cloth. The silver wiping cloth contains special ingredients, and it doesn’t matter if it gets dirty, but it must not be washed with water.
How to clean sterling silver products?
Be sure to note that if the silver products are made of old craftsmanship, they can be wiped with a silver cloth or washed with toothpaste to restore their brightness. Remember not to use silver washing water to clean them, otherwise the old craftsmanship will be destroyed.
There are three cleaning methods that we believe are the most practical:
The first is to use a professional silver-wiping cloth to wipe the surface of silver-silver products (except for the platinum-plating process).
The second is to use professional silver washing water, which can be soaked (except for the old process) or wiped (except for the platinum plating process and inlay process), and the silver jewelry is put into the silver washing water for about three seconds (the oxidation is particularly serious). It can be left for a longer time), take it out and wash it repeatedly, wash it with a lot of water, put it in alkaline water (such as soapy water) and wash it; finally rinse it with clean water.
The third method is to use toothpaste (try to choose a green transparent gel shape, this toothpaste has fine particles to avoid scratching the surface of the silver ornament), apply the toothpaste directly on the silver ornament and wipe it, then add a little water and rub out the foam, if there is any Scrub the seam with a toothbrush to prevent foam from entering the seam; however, be sure to wipe it dry or dry it with a hair dryer.
